Naples, three-year collaboration between MANN and Madre. And in the meantime, masterpieces come out on the doorsteps

Until Jan. 10, 2021, masterpieces from MANN and Madre come out on the doorsteps thanks to loop projections. Three-year collaboration between the two institutions kicks off.

Until Jan. 10, 2021, images of some of the iconic masterpieces of the two museum venues are projected on the entrance gates of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples and the Madre Museum as a sign of good wishes for a near opening and the start of a three-year collaboration between the two institutions.

MANN and Madre have initiated a joint project that will have the Mediterranean as its theme in 2021. “The collaboration, starting as early as 2021, will thus materialize in exhibition projects fully integrated in the neighborhood, with educational and inclusion activities for the younger generations,” declare MANN Director Paolo Giulierini and Fondazione Donnaregina per le arti contemporanee/Museo Madre President Laura Valente. “The first year’s project will revolve around the theme of the Mediterranean and will involve top experts and curators, as well as young creatives under 35, precisely in the name of a contemporary archaeology that knows how to make signs, relationships and different visions dialogue.”
It will also include training paths for new professionals, summer schools and residencies, aimed at university students, but also young creatives as well as scholarships and prizes for alumni, researchers and artists.

Just under a kilometer apart, the two museum venues "intend not only to develop the existing thematic connections between archaeology and contemporary art, in a path previously tested with individual exhibitions, but above all to network to help develop a true cultural district," Giulierini and Valente stressed.

Meanwhile, until Jan. 10, from dusk until 10 p.m., looped projections are starring on their respective doorways. The chosen images are those of some of the masterpieces of archaeology preserved at the MANN (from the Farnese Bull to the Venus Callipigia, from the Battle of Isso to the Flora, from the Megalography of Boscoreale to the Mazzocchi Horse), in dialogue with some of the contemporary art works housed in the regional museum on Via Settembrini, from Mimmo Paladino to Francesco Clemente, from Daniel Buren to Rebecca Horn, from Mathilde Rosier to Jannis Kounellis.
