For the Murano Glass Museum , an executive expansion project is on the way, already approved by the City Council and now also by the Board of Directors of Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia. The various interventions concern the connection of the spaces of the former Conterie with the new space, as well as the restoration and adaptation of the structure, assigned by the City of Venice for museum and exhibition purposes: an investment of more than 5 million euros, which is financially covered by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia’s own resources. The actions to adapt the important square footage, will transform the space to preserve and enhance the most precious Murano glass works, along with about 20 of the most representative chandeliers of the 21st century Murano. A room for multimedia exhibitions will also be created. An agreement between MUVE and the Administration aims to establish a center of international significance to promote the preservation, study, and dissemination of the art of glass and, likewise, research and practical implementation by involving the Civic Museums in the management of the Abate Zanetti School. MUVE will soon publish the call for bids to implement the project, with work scheduled to begin by the end of the year.
“With this intervention we want to give a new impetus to the promotion of Murano’s glass art and craft production,” explained Mayor Luigi Brugnaro, who is also vice president of the Foundation “There will be new spaces to collect the works of the masters, which tell our history, allowing future generations to know and discover more and more one of the Venetian excellences.”
“The expansion of the Glass Museum is a new, fundamental step in the history of one of Venice’s most famous artistic and artisan productions, capable of moving between a millenary tradition and the challenges to which it is called upon for the future,” said Mariacristina Gribaudi, President of Fondazione “With the City of Venice we share a commitment to the immense artistic heritage that the Civic Museums have the task of preserving, narrating, promoting and enhancing.”
