Mudec turns five. A marathon of content on its social channels to celebrate the event

The Museum of Cultures in Milan celebrated its fifth birthday yesterday. In these five years, Mudec has seen 3 million visitors, exhibited 8,300 artifacts from the world’s cultures, and organized 55 exhibitions with more than 5,000 works from the greatest international museums.

To celebrate the anniversary of its opening in March 2015, Mudec is offering on its social channels such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter a marathon of special content, initiatives, greetings, and a special thanks to the children who gave the museum more than 300 drawings to celebrate this important milestone.

Mudec’s unique model of public-private governance has done the rest over this five-year period, setting the pace each year with exhibitions and exhibition projects that have had in the development of concepts, content and new exhibition formats its strong point, and in the search for new content and new artistic trends its driving vector. From the greats of art history such as Gauguin, Klee and Kandinsky reinterpreted in the light of strong ethnographic cultural influences (Mudec’s distinctive mark) to Frida Kahlo, whose exhibition presented at Mudec was an unprecedented opportunity to present to the public the result of the latest multi-year studies on the documents that emerged from Casa Azul.

From the history of ancient peoples to the great current themes of anthropic geography with the project Geographies of the Future that brought Banksy’s street art to Italy. Before street art again the graffiti art of Basquiat, a sign of the constant attention to contemporary artistic research and the fresh and innovative approach to young contemporary artists, as shown by the choice of the upcoming solo exhibition of Zanele Muholi.

As we know, Mudec had to temporarily close to the public due to theCoronavirus emergency, but with the #MudecDelivery initiative it never really stopped. Mudec’s social marathon thus becomes an encouragement to the enthusiasm that must never slacken, to the spirit of initiative that must never wane, to the curiosity that must never be restrained, to the desire for culture, which must never get stuck, because “culture makes you free.”
