The National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah in Ferrara has set up the exhibition Ferrara ebraica, with the intention of making the public understand why the museum was born in this city, and in this time of health emergency it intends to provide everyone with the opportunity to visit it and learn about at least part of the great wealth of Jewish heritage in the Este city.
In fact, the MEIS is offering on its website ferraraebraica.meis.museum a virtual leap back in time to learn about and explore some of Ferrara’s Jewish histories. In addition to the introductory video, it is possible to see interviews with Ferrarese Jews and listen to music from the Ferrarese Jewish tradition, recorded especially for the museum.
The exhibition, organized by the MEIS and desired by director Simonetta Della Seta, curated by Sharon Reichel and installed by Giulia Gallerani, is a journey between past and present that aims to tell the story of one of Italy’s oldest Jewish communities. In addition to enhancing the splendid workmanship of ceremonial objects and reconstructing the synagogue environment, Jewish Ferrara questions the relationship between Jews and the city, bringing to light tales intertwined with History.
