The museum venue purchased during thecharity auction one of Louise Nevelson’s iconic works, Untitled (1980), to “give a further concrete sign of solidarity to the Ukrainian people and to enrich at the same time MAXXI’s national public collection with the extraordinary work of this revolutionary artist born in 1899 in Perejaslav, today’s Kiev region,” as Giovanna Melandri, president of Fondazione MAXXI, wrote on her social profile. “We stand with Ukraine against this violent and terrible aggression by Putin,” she added. “Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the MAXXI museum has been at the forefront of supporting artists and the population.”
