MAN, Museo d’Arte della Provincia di Nuoro, has appointed its new director, who succeeds Lorenzo Giusti, who moved to GAMeC in Bergamo: he is Luigi Fassi, born in Turin in 1977, who has a long, high-level experience. Before arriving in Nuoro, in fact, he curated the visual arts section of the Steirischer Herbst in Graz, an important contemporary art exhibition (the name, literally, means “Styrian Autumn”) that has been held every year since 1968 in the capital city of Styria, in southern Austria. However, before arriving in Graz, the 41-year-old specialist traveled extensively.
After graduating with a degree in philosophy from theUniversity of Turin, he wrote for contemporary art magazines such as Mousse, Artforum, Klat and Site, and, in his early 30s, co-curated the Fifth Triennial of Finland at the Helsinki Kunsthalle (2007) and the Third Prague Biennale (2007). He went on to curate exhibitions in Sweden, the United States and Lithuania, was fellow curator at the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program (between 2008 and 2009), and from 2009 to 2012 served as director of thear/ge Kunst Galerie Museum in Bolzano. Still, his resume also includes participation in Artissima in Turin, in the 2015 edition, as curator and coordinator of the Present Future section, reserved for young artists. In addition, in 2016 he curated the 16th edition of the Quadriennale di Roma, the capital’s historic contemporary art exhibition.
Best wishes to the newly appointed director from the editorial staff of Finestre Sull’Arte.
