The Musée du Louvre in Paris offers many initiatives to virtually lead the public to discover its collections and its most famous works.
Among them, thematic virtual tours are available to choose which itinerary to delve into: it is possible to immerse oneself in the Egyptian section, walk through the original moat of the fortress, since the Louvre originated from a fortification built by French King Philip Augustus, and visit the Petite Galerie, which houses the exhibition The Advent of the Artist, to admire masterpieces by Delacroix, Rembrandt and Tintoretto. And again, observe the wonders of the recently restored Galerie d’Apollon, whose ceiling is a tribute to the Sun King, Louis XIV, with the central panel depicting Apollo slaying the Python serpent, a work by Eugène Delacroix.
In addition to the virtual tours, the Louvre offers short videos on its YouTube channel , each lasting one minute: the protagonists are three characters in cartoon form (Raphael, Mona and Nabi) presenting twenty-one works of art from the famous Parisian museum. The videos are in English and invite children and their families to spend a minute together in front of a painting, a sculpture, or an antique vase to learn a few interesting facts and details about the art. Among the works illustrated are Arcimboldo’s Four Seasons, Cupid and Psyche, Winged Victory, Mona Lisa, and Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People.
