La Spezia, the city's museums are online with many proposals

Spice museums tell their stories online with many different proposals.

The museums of La Spezia are also telling the public about themselves through their virtual channels. The Ligurian city’s Museum System has thus activated some services and a calendar of activities that have momentarily left the exhibits to land on the web and social networks.

Meanwhile, it is possible to learn about the city’s public heritage online: on the La Spezia Library ’s website, the digitization project continues, which today already has 2,851 works catalogued. In addition, museums are stepping up their activities on social media, starting with Facebook: news about all the museums on the @museidellaspezia page, the “A work a day” column on the “Amedeo Lia” Museum page (@museoamedeolia), “A curious object a day” to learn about archaeology thanks to the San Giorgio Castle Museum, and the possibility of interacting with the artists of the current exhibitions at CAMeC and learning about the collections by visiting the Spice Museum of Contemporary Art’s Facebook page (@museo.camec).

And then, Wednesday meetings(CAMeC Wednesdays) become “Homemade” and move to the web becoming virtual broadcasts. Still, the Podenzana Ethnographic Museum offers, on Facebook and Instagram (@museoetnograficosp), a Tour of the World among its non-European collections (it is possible to retrace the latest “journeys”: Fiji, North America, Sumatra, New Guinea and Japan). Finally, the Palazzina delle Arti (@LaSpeziaPalazzinadelleArti) seeks among its holdings precisely those works that can be related to the current historical moment and lend themselves to expressing that sense of suspension and reflection, of new loneliness that we are experiencing and on which we cannot do anything but reflect daily. Lastly, in a few days the Seal Museum will also arrive on social media.

“In this very difficult and dramatic moment because of the coronavirus emergency,” says Mayor Pierluigi Peracchini, “culture does not stop, none of our museums stop. Through technology and thanks to the great passion of all the employees of the cultural sector of the City of La Spezia, it will be possible to discover or rediscover the cultural and artistic heritage of our City from home. A virtual tour inside the museums, interaction with artists, curiosities of past eras whose artifacts are on display in our museum hub: this and much more to fill the loneliness of these days and arouse in us the curiosity to return to visit our museums once this emergency is behind us. Dostoevsky said that beauty will save the world: the cultural services of the City of La Spezia are doing their part, always serving our community.”

Citizens can bring their ideas: you can write to cultura.comunicazione@comune.sp.it to participate by sending a proposal to the city’s museums.
