Italian Chiara Parisi becomes director of the Centre Pompidou in Metz, France.

Important appointment for Italian curator Chiara Parisi, who becomes director of the Centre Pompidou Metz.

An Italian director for the Lorraine “branch” of the Centre Pompidou: she is Roman Chiara Parisi, appointed to head the museum in Metz, the capital of Lorraine, replacing Emma Lavigne, who became president of Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Parisi will take office on Nov. 28, when she will receive her official appointment by the institute’s board of directors.

“Chiara Parisi,” Centre Pompidou Metz President Jean-Luc Bohl told local newspaper Le Républicain Lorrain, “was unanimously chosen by the jury from candidates who came from all over the world.” Bohl also said he hoped to see the future director “arrive as soon as possible to prepare for the museum’s 10th anniversary.”

Born in Rome in 1970, Chiara Parisi is a contemporary art historian, trained with a PhD at La Sapienza University in Rome (at the same university she also taught for a few years), and immediately noted for her collaborations with France. Since 2000 she has curated cycles of exhibitions at theFrench Academy at Villa Medici, while in 2004 she was director of the Centre international d’art et du paysage on the island of Vassivière. She became director of cultural programs at the Monnaie de Paris in 2011, and in 2017 she returned to the Academy of France in Rome, where she became curator of contemporary art. She was also a member of the FRAC Franche-Comté’s Acquisitions Committee, the Maxxi’s Italian Contemporary Art Prize, and the Lum Prize.
