As of Monday, May 23, 2022, the Mirror Gallery of the Royal Palace of Genoa, decorated at the behest of the Durazzo family in the early eighteenth century, will be closed to the public for a series of necessary conservative maintenance and restoration works. The museum route will therefore be interrupted in front of the Gallery entrance, also limiting the possibility of visiting theDuke of Genoa’s Apartment with the fresco of La Fama by Valerio Castello and the sumptuous bedroom, enriched by a beautiful canopy and remarkable paintings and furnishings.
Once underway, the construction site will offer scaffolding tours that will be organized on an ad hoc basis for an unprecedented experience of great interest, not only educational. According to plans, the construction site will last about ten months in order to see the frescoes, stuccoes, and gilding at their best. Thanks to a diagnostic worksite carried out between November and December 2018, it was possible to precisely define the most appropriate procedures and methods of intervention, which will be implemented in full compliance with the regulations and the most up-to-date conservation practices. The plasters will be consolidated and appropriately reintegrated in the degraded areas; on the gilding and stuccoes, cleaning, consolidation and re-adhesion of the lifts will be carried out; and stuccoing and reintegration will be carried out where necessary.
In view of the construction site, on Sunday, May 22, the museum will be exceptionally open from 2 to 6 p.m. with a special ticket of 2 euros and guided tours of the Gallery’s frescoes and decorations, to offer visitors a welcome focused on this precious environment of the Palace.
