GalLibreria Centro Di opens in Florence: a new space that will be part museum, part bookstore and part publishing house

An interesting cultural experiment kicks off in Florence starting tomorrow, Wednesday, June 20, 2018: GalLibreria Centro Di, a new exhibition space in the renovated premises of the Centro Di publishing house, founded in 1968 by Alessandra and Ferruccio Marchi and specializing in quality publications on art history, officially opens its doors. The first of these exhibitions, scheduled from June 20 to July 20, 2018, will be titled Centro Di & Guests: Zona Archives. Artists’ books - Artists’ books 1960>2018 and will be an exhibition of artists’ books, from the 1960s to the present day, focusing on artists who have chosen the book as their medium of expression (some names, in alphabetical order: Stefano Arienti, Gilbert & George, Ketty La Rocca, Sol LeWitt, Maurizio Nannucci, Yoko Ono, Giulio Paolini, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Andy Warhol).

The intuition to open GalLibreria was born, the presentation says, from the idea “to help promote around the book a movement of artists, collectors, publishers, enthusiasts, scholars”: and that is why the gallery “intends to propose a work of selection of books usable by a varied public, a work that returns to be very important at a time when speed and ease of access to information is not always a guarantee of quality in the fruition of topics, texts and ideas.”
