The Vatican Museums are announcing their reopening on Monday, May 3: the public will be able to return to visit the Vatican Museums and Gardens, but with strict security rules that must be respected, under penalty of immediate removal.
A note posted on the museum complex’s website states, “Visits will be set according to the criteria that are briefly described below. These are necessary rules so that your visit can take place in the best and safest of conditions. In this sense they take precedence over the ordinary conditions stated in the individual sections of our official website.”
As of May 3, 2021, the Vatican Museums and Gardens will follow the following public opening hours: Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with last entry at 4:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., with last entry at 6 p.m. Extraordinary openings on the last Sunday of the month are suspended.
To access the Museums, it will be mandatory to book your visit through the official portal http://tickets.museivaticani.va/ and reservations during this period will be free of charge. Access will be limited and organized in entry bands of 30 minutes each (when booking, the preferred time must be selected), and on the day of the visit it will be necessary to respect the booking time with extreme precision.
Mandatory use of a mask covering the nose and mouth and must be worn for the duration of the visit, including in outdoor spaces; body temperature will be monitored (entrance will be denied with a temperature of 37.5° C or higher. Mandatory avoid assemblages and maintain an interpersonal distance of more than one meter. Any violations will be brought to the consideration of the relevant Authorities and may be ordered the removal from the Museums of those who do not follow the provisions.
Regarding guided tours and group visits, visits will be possible for groups of up to 20 people plus the guide. The Museums will continue to organize guided tours for individual visitors entrusted to their educational operators, again for groups consisting of a maximum of 20 people and, in this case, it is required to show up 15 minutes in advance of the reservation time.
In addition, the exit that gives direct access to St. Peter’s Basilica from the Sistine Chapel will remain closed until otherwise arranged.
Inside the Museums visitors will be able to take advantage of the food and beverage service by making a reservation through the official ticketing portal, and the service will be divided into distinct time slots, at the end of which it will be necessary to leave their table. Bar, cafeteria and food service will take place exclusively at the table.
