From Lercio to Intrashtenimento, the National Gallery of Umbria promotes itself with irreverent social media

Perugia's Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria will reopen July 1 after a year of closure, and to let people know it has decided to promote itself with some of Italy's most irreverent social channels: from Lercio to Intrashtenimento, from Taffo to Legolize.

The National Gallery of Umbria in Perugia, which will reopen to the public on Friday, July 1, after a year of work, has decided to get in on the art world. Thus, in order to let the public know about the important event, every week, from June 22 to August 31, 2022, on some of the most followed Italian social channels, from Le Frasi di Osho to Lercio, from Taffo to Legolize to many others, with more than 6 million followers, posts will be published that, through the satire card, will promote the GNU and its most important masterpieces.

The project, which will be recognized by the hashtag #artedellirriverenza, is curated by Matteo Grandi, a Perugian by birth, one of the most popular authors and a keen observer of network dynamics. The aim is to make culture accessible to a wider audience, not just fans and insiders, using a fresher and funnier language without betraying the sacredness of art. After all, the Gallery argues, who is to say that Perugino, Pintoricchio or Piero della Francesca did not poke fun at themselves or enjoy hiding messages or parodies in their works?
