Mantua’s Ducal Palace Museum Complex returned yesterday to welcome its visitors. On an experimental basis, for the first week, the visit route will be reduced and free of charge, in order to verify the proper functioning of the new security measures provided for health emergencies. The museum headquarters hopes to reopen the new route that will allow the public to access all the rooms of Corte Vecchia and Corte Nuova.
It is therefore possible to return to admire the Bridal Chamber, a masterpiece by Andrea Mantegna frescoed between 1465 and 1474 for Marquis Ludovico Gonzaga, and much of the National Archaeological Museum. Access to the Bridal Chamber will be allowed to ten people at a time every ten minutes, and reservations must be made online or at the ticket office. The National Archaeological Museum will open its ground floor, telling the story of the Mantuan territory, and a small part of the second floor in order to see the Neolithic find of the Valdaro Lovers. Visiting hours will remain the usual: Tuesday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“During these days of closure due to the health emergency,” said Reggia Director Emanuela Daffra, “we have always been aware of the need for a safe reopening. Once we became aware of the regulatory framework, the staff worked scrupulously to comply with all new a measures in constant dialogue with the social partners. As of June 5, we want to test the effectiveness of the system, but we also want to open with a gift to the city by offering a reduced but free tour: a thought addressed especially to the people of Mantua and Lombardy, to whom we want to make them rediscover once again, through its best-known masterpiece, the richness of the incredible treasure chest that is the Ducal Palace.”
From June 5 to 11, the Ducal Palace Museum Complex will therefore offer a reduced tour and admission will be by free ticket. From June 12 to Aug. 31, visitors will be able to access St. George’s Castle (with Bridal Chamber), the Old Court and the National Archaeological Museum from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a full ticket of 13 euros and a reduced ticket of 2 euros for 18- to 25-year-olds.
