The Museum of Palazzo Davanzati in Florence will be completely refurbished and for this reason will close to the public from March 21 to June 23, 2022: more than 20 years after the last conservative intervention, the museum will undergo works that will partially modify the museum itinerary, but will enrich it with new collection proposals and new furnishings. In no way will the aims already expressed in the early twentieth century by Elia Volpi and then in 1956 with the opening of the State Museum of the Ancient Florentine House be distorted: the fourteenth-century residence will be returned to the Tuscan capital with its original architecture and interior wall decorations.
“The intent is to take the visitor through a journey back in time, to discover the atmosphere and lifestyle of the past,” said Daniele Rapino, head of the Museum of Palazzo Davanzati and creator of the rearrangement project.
The previous conservation work had almost exclusively concerned the architectural structures of the palace and the wall decorations of the interior rooms. Today, work will instead be done on the itinerary and furnishings, with interventions aimed at offering visitors a better visitor experience. Special care will be given to the refitting of the lace collection.
The refitting work was made possible thanks to a 500-thousand-euro grant from the Ministry of Culture.
