Starting Monday, January 21, young people between the ages of 18 and 25 will be able to visit Florence’s Civic Museums for free every Monday. The initiative, launched by the mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella, will last on an experimental basis for the whole of 2019: the number of those who will benefit from free admission to the city’s museums is thus broadened, and young people aged 18 to 25 will thus be able to enter for free exactly as it has been so far (and as it will continue to be) for children and young people under the age of 18. The project covers the Museo di Palazzo Vecchio, the Museo Novecento, the Museo Stefano Bardini, the Cappella Brancacci and the Fondazione Salvatore Romano.
That’s not all: young people will have access to two theaters at the symbolic cost of one euro: every Friday at the Maggio Musicale and at Teatro Verdi during performances by the Orchestra Toscana. In addition, young people between the ages of 18 and 25 will receive a 50 euro bonus as an “invitation to reading and information,” which they can spend on books, newspapers or periodicals. Details on how to use it will be disseminated shortly.
“It is our duty,” said Mayor Dario Nardella, “to expand the possibilities of education and knowledge of the younger generations. Our museums are treasure troves of art, history and culture that perhaps not everyone knows about, and we want to increase the possibilities for everyone to visit, alongside the traditional free admission such as Florentine Sunday and the various special initiatives throughout the year, such as free admission for women on March 8, or free admission for everyone in honor of the Electress Palatine.”
