In Florence, the Accademia Gallery launches the game of the summer aimed at its users: it is called Ricci ad arte and the goal is to dress up as one of Lorenzo Bartolini ’s busts selected by the museum staff. You reproduce your favorite bust and send a photo to the museum, wherever you are: at the seaside, in the country, in the mountains, in the city, on the beach, on a lake, along the banks of a river, locked in the house, stranded on the sofa after Sunday lunch. The name of the contest is inspired by the elegantly styled locks of Bartolini’s ladies: laborious hairstyles, where every curl and ringlet is expertly placed.
Bartolini’s five plaster casts were chosen for the complexity of the hairstyles, and the museum’s invitation to users is to comb their hair by copying the ladies’ locks. From the second half of August and throughout September each week, the museum will post the most imaginative and successful ones on the Instagram profile of the Florence Academy Gallery. In addition, at the end of September a jury will choose the best among those that got the most “likes,” and the winners will receive free admission for three people and a guided tour of the Gallery, in compliance with the regulations in force at the time regarding Covid-19. In order to participate, photos must be sent to info@friendsofdavid.org (max 1 mb) or posted on Instagram with the references @galleriaaccademiafirenze and #ricciadarte #artsycurly. By submitting the photo or tagging the Gallery, the public will automatically give consent to post it on the Florence Academy Gallery’s social networks.
The five busts selected are the Faustina minor, the portrait of Frances Anne Vane-Tempest, III Marquess of Londonderry, the portrait of Elisa Baciocchi, and two busts of unidentified gentlewomen. Following are the images.
