The first national museum dedicated to the famous tenor Enrico Caruso, set up inside the Royal Palace of Naples, opens on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. In fact, this year marks the 150th anniversary of the tenor ’s birth, and the Neapolitan city pays tribute to him in this way.
The monumental Sala Dorica will host not only an exhibition of Caruso’s memorabilia, but a true room of wonders, with 3D animations and multimedia platforms, music and film stations and installations, a kaleidoscope of effects aimed at a diverse audience that intends to involve children as well as enthusiasts, insiders and visitors from all over the world.
On the occasion of the opening, at the Court Theater of the Royal Palace, a presentation conference will be held with the participation of the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, the Director General of Museums, Massimo Osanna, the Director of the Royal Palace, Mario Epifani, the Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, and Laura Valente, curator of the Caruso Museum.
Crucially, the collaboration with a special donor, Luciano Pituello, who with his Associazione Museo Enrico Caruso, Centro Studi Carusiani in Milan, has dedicated his entire life to collecting original memorabilia and engravings and who has decided to donate most of the rare materials he owns as an act of generous sharing of a definitive project on the great tenor. The Pituello Fund has already been partly destined for the municipality of Lastra a Signa (where the Caruso Museum in Villa Bellosguardo, Caruso’s Italian residence, is located) and with which an important collaboration has been initiated that will allow the Naples museum to temporarily have costumes, records, vintage gramophones, and original sheet music with autographed notations by the artist.
The initiative relies on the collaboration of Carusian partners from all over the world, starting with the Ricordi and Puccini Archives to the great opera houses with their precious archives, such as San Carlo, La Scala and the Metropolitan to the Cineteca di Bologna.
Admission is included in the ticket to the Royal Palace of Naples
