Restoration work on the facade of the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara has been completed. The scaffolding that had concealed the facade on Corso Ercole I d’Este from the eyes of passers-by was removed today: one of the city’s palace-symbols, a Renaissance jewel designed by Biagio Rossetti (Ferrara, 1447 - 1516) thus returns to view in all its splendor.
The works had been necessary to repair and consolidate the structure of the palace after the 2012 earthquake (and these structural improvement works are continuing in other parts of the palace): in addition to this, the façade has undergone maintenance and cleaning work (by low-pressure water washing) of the very famous diamond-pointed ashlar that gives the building its name, as well as of all the exterior facings. With the restoration, patinas and surface deposits were also removed and lesions were grouted.
Ferrara, the facade of Palazzo dei Diamanti shines again: restoration finished |
