Everyone is free to let their imagination run wild: a self-portrait in a bath turban, a painted iron, pretty much anything goes. Since everyone knows the painting, the Girl is easily recognizable. Vermeer’s distinctive colors, shapes and typical use of light can be evoked in a variety of ways.

For years, the museum has been receiving drawings, self-portraits and other creative submissions dedicated to the famous work: it has therefore launched the Instagram account @mygirlwithapearl to give people the opportunity to share the most extraordinary versions of the painting from around the world.

From February to June 2023, instead of the painting, a digital frame will make versions of the Girl with a Pearl Earring created by the public visible to all. Selected creations will each be displayed for one week in the digital frame. To submit your version, you must fill out a form and upload your creation by January 15, 2023. If in possession of an Instagram account, simply share the creation using the tags @mygirlwithapearl and @mauritshuis_museum and the hashtag #mygirlwithapearl. You may then have the opportunity to see your own Girl with a Pearl Earring on the wall of the Mauritshuis.
