Scalping is a problem for visitors as it prevents citizens and tourists from finding their way to the Colosseum, thus forcing them to buy tickets at a raised cost from those who buy the titles just to make money on them. Now, as of June 25, 2022, the Colosseum Archaeological Park has ordered that the sales of Full Experience Underground and Arena tickets (i.e., the most expensive one, 22 euros, which allows visitors to see all parts of the monument) and tickets for the evening event Moon on the Colosseum, be strictly named for each member of a group and/or family unit and bear the personal data of each individual visitor. Other types of tickets, however, remain outside this logic for now.

In order to make the procedure rigid and unchangeable after the fact, the PArCo has stipulated that in the event of a mismatch with the visitor’s ID, access to the Colosseum will not be allowed, nor will any reimbursement be guaranteed. The procedure has been in place since June 25, but tickets purchased before that date can still be used without the visitor’s ID. From July 2, the cross-check of the ticket and ID documents will also be carried out at the entrance of the Colosseum with the support of the police.
