Once again this year, the Rome Capital Museum System welcomes visitors of all ages with Christmas in the Museums: arich calendar of educational activities, guided tours, shows, games and walking tours.
Dr. Stellarium returns. The now-famous character celebrates Christmas with the young guests of the Museo di Roma in Trastevere by presenting his encounter show Dr. Stellarium and the star of the first Christmas, curated by Gabriele Catanzaro, in which the favorite of visitors to the Planetarium of Roma Capitale guides the public to discover the famous star of the first Christmas. It begins Dec. 28 at 5 p.m. and will be repeated on Jan. 6 at the same time. Reservations recommended at 060608.
There is room for learning, while having fun, either through traditional games such as the treasure hunt scheduled at the Capitoline Museums (Dec. 26, 4:30 p.m.), or the classic tombola, in the version proposed by the Museum of Casal de’ Pazzi (Dec. 28, 10.00 a.m.) and in the historical transposition of the Mercati di Traiano - Museo dei Fori Imperiali (Jan. 4, 11 a.m.); as well as through the numerous workshops active in the different museums and for all age groups to which online workshops (LAD - Laboratori a distanza) will also be added. These include, for example, A Goldsmith at the Museum in which the little ones can try their hand at goldsmithing by making their own piece of jewelry (Jan. 4, 10:30 a.m.), or At the Ara Pacis: a Nature in celebration to learn about the history of Augustus and the nature depicted on the monument’s frieze (Dec. 27, 10:30 a.m.), or From Earth to Form to learn how to manipulate clay (Dec. 28, 11 a.m.).
Another novelty is the simultaneous double visit, one for children and one for accompanying persons, which at the same time but with distinct languages and groups, will lead to the discovery of the museums. We begin with the Casina delle Civette at the Villa Torlonia Museums with the representations of flora and fauna that characterize its decoration (Dec. 26, 11.30 a.m.), moving on to the Pietro Canonica Museum at Villa Borghese, to investigate the intimacy of the great characters portrayed by the sculptor (Dec. 30, 11.00) and the Museo Carlo Bilotti - Aranciera di Villa Borghese, where one can immerse oneself, at the same time, in the history of contemporary art and in the greenery of the surrounding villa (Jan. 2, 4 p.m.). Ending the program is the Museo di Roma in Trastevere with a tale of ancient Rome through images from the collection and watercolors by Roesler Franz (Jan. 4, 11 a.m.).
Little changes to the formula at the Capitoline Museums where the visit for older children is accompanied by a simultaneous workshop activity for the youngest members of the family (Dec. 27 4:30 p.m., Jan. 3 11 a.m.)
The double-visit formula is then joined by the many guided tours available to older children. Of note are those in the archaeological area of the Imperial Forums (Dec. 26, 3 p.m.), at the Markets of Trajan (Dec. 29, 5 p.m.), at the Auditorium of Maecenas (Jan. 6, 3 p.m.), at the Alberto Moravia House Museum (Jan. 7, 11 a.m.) and those at the exhibition Klimt. Secession and Italy, which can now also be booked by the individual visitor who can join a group by compulsorily pre-purchasing at 060608 both access to the exhibition and the visit. One can choose from the following options: Dec. 27, 29, 2, 4, 6 and 8 January at 11:20 a.m.; Dec. 28, 30, 3 and 5 January at 5:20 p.m.
There are also numerous itinerant activities to explore the city’s wards, the beauties that inhabit them and the anecdotes related to them. A busy calendar of walks curated by the Capitoline Superintendence for Cultural Heritage with Zètema Progetto Cultura. One can retrace the milestones of the Grand Tour, with the symbolic places described by the great artists and intellectuals (Dec. 27, 11 a.m.), or get to know Rome à la française, in an itinerary that leads from the Napoleonic Museum along Via di Ripetta to the Pincio Hill (Dec. 29, 11.00); you will have the chance to get to know the historic places that have distinguished Rome as a city of hospitality (Jan. 2, 10 a.m.) and enter the heart of one of the city’s most lively and historically rich neighborhoods, Testaccio (Jan. 5, 10 a.m.).
