In the heart of the Medici park inside theBoboli Gardens , the Camellia Garden will be accessible with guided tours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from Jan. 17 to April 13. This is an opportunity to discover a space historically reserved for the Grand Ducal Medici family, transformed in the late 18th century into a refined garden dedicated to the cultivation of camellias, plants symbolic of elegance and beauty. Among the different species, Camellia japonica is the most represented, with 49 specimens of 37 varieties. Among them is the “Candidissima,” dated 1830 and known for its candid blooms that light up the garden.
The opening of the Camellia Garden is also an important event for the enhancement of a cultural heritage that must be protected and passed on. The care of the camellias and maintenance of the garden are entrusted to botanical experts, who ensure the preservation of a unique and delicate environment.
Visitors to the Camellia Garden will be able to immerse themselves in an environment that combines nature and history, walking among specimens of extraordinary beauty and discovering the special relationship the Medici family had with the landscape and garden architecture. Because of its location and historical significance, the Camellia Garden is a gem in the Boboli complex, already known for its geometric avenues, statues, and fountains.
To ensure the best possible experience, access will be limited to a maximum of 25 people per shift, with visits accompanied by security staff. During January and February, tours will start every hour from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; during March and April, however, hours will be extended with shifts at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
