Vercelli and its museums hold many treasures that testify to the fact that the Middle Ages was the city’s greatest flowering period from an artistic, cultural, social and religious point of view. It was therefore thought to make the public understand this great value through a real project that intends to tell the historical path that shaped the Vercelli area and its inhabitants: thus"The Middle Ages in the museum treasures of Vercelli and Varallo" was born.
Exceptional guide in this journey is Alessandro Barbero, historian and full professor of medieval history at the University of Eastern Piedmont, thanks to whom it will be possible to discover the history of the Vercelli area through five museums: the Leone Museum, the Borgogna Museum, the Museum of the Cathedral Treasury and Chapter Archives, the City of Vercelli Archaeological Museum and the Palace of Museums - Varallo Picture Gallery and Calderini Museum.
In fact, Barbero presents special videos shot inside these museum venues aimed at recounting the medieval treasures housed here and taking viewers back in time, on a journey through the history and curiosities of the period.
The project was carried out by ATL Valsesia Vercelli, in collaboration with Piedmont Region, City of Vercelli, City of Varallo, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Vercelli, Ascom Vercelli and Province, Borgogna Museum, Leone Museum, Archaeological Museum of the City of Vercelli, Museum of the Cathedral Treasury and Chapter Archives, and Varallo Palace of Museums.
