The Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence presents the D.A.V.I.D.(Defense of Cultural Heritage and Assessment of Vulnerability through Innovative Technologies & Devices) project, selected by the Region of Tuscany among the 102 funded within the European Social Fund call for proposals.
The main objective of the project is the protection of the museum’s architectural and artistic heritage through the support of the most advanced geomatic survey and diagnostic technologies. The research activity will focus on safeguarding the building and collections from the risk caused by human activities or extreme events, such as earthquakes. A number of models will be developed: the H-BIM(Heritage Building Information Modeling), a pioneering application in Italy of a support tool at the service of the museum, aimed at a more efficient management of maintenance and conservation, as well as an optimal organization of planned interventions and construction sites; numerical models for the study and representation of the behavior of individual architectural and artistic elements with respect to different risk factors.
The project was co-funded by the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence and was strongly desired and supported by the museum’s director, Cecilie Hollberg; it was conceived by the research group of theUniversity of Florence - DICEA (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering) coordinated by Professor Claudio Borri.
D.A.V.I.D. was created as part of a memorandum of understanding on seismic risk assessment active between the museum and the DICEA-UNIFI Department since 2016.
During the research activity, which will last two years, Dr. Silvia Monchetti, a DICEA Department research fellow and winner of the competition announced by the University of Florence for the award, will be in charge of the D.A.V.I.D. project.
