Rome, Quadriennale seeks new artistic director. Already open for selection

Fondazione La Quadriennale di Roma is looking for a new artistic director for the three-year period 2021-2024. A call for applications is already online on the Foundation’s website. There is time to send applications until June 18, 2021.

The Artistic Director of the Quadriennale will, for the next three years, be responsible for the cultural programming of the important national institution whose mission is to promote Italian contemporary art. His tasks will be: to create and develop activities dedicated to the research and promotion of emerging art in Italy and abroad; to encourage training and professional updating initiatives in the field of contemporary arts; to propose stable ways of collaboration with similar institutions abroad; to organize communication, research and training initiatives related to the world of digital and network technologies; and to enhance the documentary heritage of the Quadriennale Library Archive on Italian art of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Not included in the assignment is the curatorship of the next edition of the Quadriennale d’arte, scheduled for fall-winter 2025. Instead, central will be the vision for the future of the former Pontifical Clementine Arsenal, the monumental complex entrusted by the Ministry of Culture to the Foundation as a new venue for contemporary creativity and where the move is planned for 2023.

The ideal candidate should have: a specialized knowledge of contemporary art; established relationships, in Italy and abroad, in the field of visual arts of the 20th and 21st centuries, including in their connections with other disciplines; experience in planning and organizing cultural initiatives and programs; mastery of strategies for enhancement and promotion to the public and stakeholders; fluent knowledge of Italian and English with citizenship within the European Union.

The appointment is not on an exclusive basis. The Artistic Director will therefore be able to maintain and/or activate collaborative relationships as long as they do not have an artistic direction content and do not conflict with the activities carried out by the Foundation. Applications, as anticipated, must be received by June 18, 2021 at quadriennalediroma@pec.it. Applications will be reviewed by a committee composed of the Foundation’s President, a member of the Board of Directors appointed by the Board, the General Director, and an external expert also appointed by the BoD. The final decision will be made by the Board of Directors by July 2021.
