Paestum, two young archaeologists sought for new excavation campaign

Paestum Archaeological Park seeks two young archaeologists to be awarded grants for a new excavation campaign.

Two scholarships for young archaeologists: they have been announced at the Paestum Archaeological Park, for the #ilgustodellascoperta project now in its third year. The two archaeologists will work on a new excavation campaign in one of the Greek city’s residential blocks. Supporting the research is the Di Martino pasta factory, owner of the Antonio Amato brand, which, again this year, has subsidized the two scholarships worth 9,000 euros each, thus enabling the continuation of research on domestic environments in Poseidonia in the 6th and 5th centuries B.C. B.C. and in-depth study regarding aspects of daily life, which until now are still too little known.

The uniqueness of the #thetasteofdiscovery project lies in the fact that the excavation will take place in full view of everyone. Guided tours of the excavations will be organized and, for those who cannot be physically present in Paestum, the progress of the work can also be followed on the social channels of the Paestum Archaeological Park and Pasta Antonio Amato, following the hashtag #ilgustodellascoperta on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.

“We are pleased to contribute, for the third year in a row, to the research and to be able to give two more young archaeologists the opportunity to further their studies directly in the field,” says Giuseppe Di Martino, CEO of the Di Martino pasta factory. “Pasta Antonio Amato continues to care about the development of the territory and aims to show the world the places and products that an Italian excellence, such as the province of Salerno, has to offer.”

“Antonio Amato will continue the digital storytelling of this beautiful project,” explains Alessia Passatordi, Antonio Amato brand manager. “Also this year we will organize live broadcasts with schools interested in learning about the fantastic world of archaeology, allowing the youngest and not only to be able to interact directly with archaeologists, thus encouraging the culture of research and discovery.”

“I am proud that also for this year together with Pastificio Antonio Amato we can give an opportunity to two young graduates,” says Paestum Archaeological Park director Gabriel Zuchtriegel. “Past experience leads us to think that Paestum is a training ground of some depth, considering that the previous fellows now hold important professional positions among MIBAC, universities and other research organizations. Research is the heart of every museum, and combining this mission with an opportunity for young archaeologists seems to me to be a good signal for our area.”

The call is aimed at young archaeologists from Italy or another European Union state who already have excavation experience. The selection will take place through the evaluation of qualifications possessed and by interview. Also incisive for the selection of the winners will be the submission of a motivational letter highlighting the strengths of each candidate. You can apply by visiting the Park’s website.
