The Ministry of Culture ’s Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity today launched the public notice for the second edition of "Nuovo Grand Tour," an artistic residency project in France aimed at young Italian artists and creatives under the age of 30. Implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris, the project offers an opportunity for artistic development and cultural exchange in France, to take place between fall 2024 and spring 2025.
The “New Grand Tour” was created with the aim of promoting cultural dialogue and European values of exchange and sharing. This project takes the form of a concretization of the shared visions on youth and culture established in the Quirinal Treaty, signed by Italy and France in November 2021. The multidisciplinary program targets artists from all creative disciplines, from visual arts to performing arts, via fashion, design, architecture, gastronomy and crafts.
With a total allocation of 225,000 euros, the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity will fund residencies for 50 young Italian artists and creatives (born after January 1, 1994). These artists will have the opportunity to work in 23 residency centers distributed throughout France. During the residency, the participants will be supported in their artistic research and creative process, without production constraints, and will be able to get in touch with various local cultural actors.
Director General Contemporary Creativity, Angelo Piero Cappello, expressed the strategic importance of the project, “We believe it is our duty to activate all kinds of strategies to promote Italian culture and talent beyond national borders, also thanks to the collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and its network of offices abroad. Through the work of cultural diplomacy that accompanies the many internationalization activities of our Directorate General, we help strengthen ties between nations and create intercultural dialogue, which is essential for greater understanding and mutual enrichment. These artistic exchanges not only enhance our creative youth, but also contribute to shared cultural growth, which is the basis for international cooperation and collective progress.”
To participate in the New Grand Tour, interested artists should email their applications to nouveaugrandtour2425@gmail.com by 11:59 p.m. (Italian time) on July 18, 2024. For further information and clarification, you can contact the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris at iicparigi.concorso@esteri.it by July 10, 2024.
