The director will also perform the following tasks: contributes to the definition of the cultural and institutional project of the museum in his or her area of responsibility; coordinates the activities of information, promotion and communication to the public; supervises the preservation, ordering, display, study of the collections, and didactic and educational activities, coordinating the work of those assigned to these functions; ensures the maintenance and updating of inventories and cataloging; oversees the scientific management of the museum within its competence and the definition of research and study plans; gives advice for the loan and deposit of works and oversees the related procedures; maintains, in agreement with the Director and on behalf of the Municipality of Carrara, relations with the Ministry of Culture, the Superintendencies, the Region, the Province and other museums; regulates the consultation of art materials and authorizes the’access to storerooms; supervises the planning of didactic and educational activities and coordinates their conduct; presides, if established, over the Scientific Committee; proposes interventions of ordinary maintenance, conservation and restoration; elaborates the criteria and projects for the exhibition of the collections; proposes the realization of temporary exhibitions; collaborates in the activities related to temporary exhibitions organized by the Municipality in the museum premises; oversees the production of catalogs and publications, communication, and promotion of the museum’s heritage; manages relations with stakeholders in the area and develops relationships at the regional and national levels; carries out fundraising activities; formulates and implements projects aimed at obtaining regional, national, and EU funding.

These are the requirements: Master’s degree, or old-school degree, or equivalent degree from a university institution, including foreign universities, in archaeology and/or specialized degrees respectively equivalent to the LM-02 or 02/S class, as per the protocol cited in the introduction; Experience in the organization and management of public or private cultural facilities, preferably of a museum nature, or carrying out scientific coordination assignments; Proven professional qualification in the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage, in particular archaeological heritage; Specific knowledge of the local history and culture of thevast area of Massa-Carrara and Luni; Experience as director, conservator and/or curator of museums and archaeological areas; Experience in fundraising activities; Many years of experience in managing institutional relations and national and international relations in the cultural field; Experience in the conception and implementation of communication projects; Ability to use technologies, particularly in the museum and cultural institutions field; Knowledge of English; Experience in museology and collection rearrangement.

The position will not constitute an employment relationship but rather self-employed professional service. This means that the director will have full organizational autonomy on time and hours of performance of his or her activities but will have to ensure adequate supervision at the Civic Museum of Marble and the Archaeological Area of Fossacava. The appointment will last three years and provides for an annual compensation of 20,000 euros including charges and VAT, conferred against the service rendered.
