Zehra DoÄŸan's first Italian solo exhibition extended until March 1, 2020

Given its success with the public, Kurdish artist Zehra DoÄŸan's first Italian solo exhibition in Brescia has been extended until March 1, 2020.

Given the great success with the public, the Municipality of Brescia and the Fondazione Brescia Musei have decided to extend until Sunday, March 1, 2020, the first solo exhibition in Italy of Kurdish artist and journalist Zehra DoÄŸan (Diyarbakir, Turkey, 1989), entitled We will also have better days - Zehra DoÄŸan. Works from Turkish Prisons, set up in Brescia ’s Santa Giulia Museum and curated by Elettra Stamboulis.

During the opening period, the exhibition was visited by more than 10000 people, with a daily average of 200 attendees, plus another 300 who attended the evening opening on November 15, 2019. Educational activities, curated by the Foundation’s Educational Services, dedicated to schools, and guided tours for adults, as well as workshops for families, also continue.

In addition, on November 23, the artist created a live portrait of Hevrin Khalaf, to whom the work is dedicated, at the Santa Giulia Museum. The latter was secretary-general of the Syrian Future Party, an activist for women’s rights and on the front lines for the recognition of the identity of the Kurdish people: she was killed on October 12, 2019, by men from Arab mercenary militias supporting the Turkish offensive. The newspaper pages that the artist used as a support for the work are from the days when the news of the killing was in the media. Two hundred visitors participated in the performance, and the work produced will be framed and included in the exhibition’s exhibit; a video dedicated to the story of that day will also be made.
