Wes Anderson and his new film in a new exhibition at the Prada Foundation

On the occasion of the Italian theatrical release of Wes Anderson's new film, the Prada Foundation presents the exhibition "Wes Anderson - Asteroid City: Exhibition": the public will be able to see original sets, props, models, costumes and artwork featured in the film.

From Sept. 23, 2023 to Jan. 7, 2024, the Fondazione Prada, in its Milan headquarters, will host the Wes Anderson - Asteroid City: Exhibition, presented by Fondazione Prada in collaboration with Universal Pictures International Italy, on the occasion of the Italian theatrical release of Wes Anderson’s new film.

After London, the exhibition project will be set up in the Foundation’s North Gallery: the public will be able to see a selection of original sets, props, models, costumes and artworks featured in the film. Two years after The French Dispatch, Wes Anderson returns to the big screen with a film that combines science fiction with the spirit of Broadway and encapsulates the hallmarks of the American director. Due out in theaters on September 14, 2023, Asteroid City is set around 1955 in animaginary American desert town known precisely as Asteroid City, where a convention of young astronomers and space cadets takes place, bringing together students and parents from across the country, shattered by mysterious events that will change the world.

Wes Anderson’s 11th film, distributed by Universal Pictures, stars Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Matt Dillon, and Bryan Cranston.

Over the years, Wes Anderson and Fondazione Prada have built a strong bond: in 2015, the director conceived Bar Luce, which recreates the atmosphere of a typical café in old Milan, taking inspiration from two masterpieces of Italian Neorealism: Vittorio De Sica’s Miracle in Milan (1951) and Luchino Visconti’s Rocco and His Brothers (1960). Its structural and decorative elements are reminiscent of the popular culture and aesthetics of 1950s and 1960s Italy that Anderson had already inspired for the short film Castello Cavalcanti produced by Prada in 2013. In 2017 Wes Anderson, with Juman Malouf, curated The Spitzmaus Sarcophagus and Other Treasures, an exhibition project produced by Fondazione Prada in collaboration with the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
