At the exhibition venues of Castel Sant’Angelo and Palazzo Venezia, the exhibition"Weapons and Power" focusing on the world of weapons in Renaissance Europe is open to the public until November 11, 2018.
The exhibition aims to make people understand every aspect of the link between weapons and men, mythology and representation of power, while also highlighting the long tradition of military art manuals.
Both Castel Sant’Angelo and Palazzo Venezia hold two of the world’s most important cores of historical weapons in their collections, and thanks to international loans, visitors will be able to see more, delving into a phenomenon that has long remained obscure.
Especially in Italy, weapons took on a totalizing dimension in the Renaissance, meaning they involved social and ritual, symbolic and iconographic aspects that went beyond their concrete use.
The exhibition is curated by Mario Scalini and is part of the ArtCity 2018 program.
