Volterra's Palazzo dei Priori hosts double solo exhibition by Frosali and Roccasalvo

Palazzo dei Priori in Volterra is dedicating a double solo exhibition by Renato Frosali and Pietro Roccasalvo RUB entitled"The Logical Negative. Toward New Possibilities of the Subject," which will be open to the public from Sept. 8 to Oct. 7, 2018.

The exhibition will take place between the Upper Hall of the palace and the basement of the Volterra Art Gallery and Civic Museum and will present five large paintings by Renato Frosali (Pomarance, Pisa, 1962) and twenty works, including paintings and drawings, made by Piero Roccasalvo RUB (Syracuse, 1974).

The two contemporary artists share common bases, such as a love for beauty, history, art history, the baroque and the medieval, the boldness of the volcanic landscape and the gentleness of the hilly one, the element of the sea and that of the wind, the Sublime of the Sicilian land-its colors, its passions, its materiality, in correlation with the beauty of the Tuscan land, but with a different meaning. The theme of death is central in the comparison between the two artists: in Frosali we start from the portrait in Etruscan sarcophagi and arrive at Rosso Fiorentino ’s Deposition of Christ with continuous cues and suggestions; in Piero Roccasalvo Rub the Baroque spirit of a territory in which the work on mourning and grief in ancient religious festivals refers to esotericisms linked to Arab, Norman and Spanish traditions.

The exhibition is curated by Giuseppe Carrubba and the Municipality of Volterra in collaboration with Accademia Libera Natura & Cultura.

Hours: Monday through Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Palazzo dei Priori). Daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Pinacoteca and Museo Civico).
