On the occasion of the 59th. International Art Exhibition in Venice, from April 23 to November 27, 2022, Francesca Leone presents the Collateral Event Take your time, curated by Danilo Eccher, with the scientific direction of Nomas Foundation.
It is proposed as an unprecedented installation path, which comes to life starting from reflections around the restrictions imposed by the pandemic and the suspension of collective and individual time during the health emergency, questioning the relationship between human, time and matter. The artist breaks down, forges, molds, sculpts, paints the marginalized, thrown, discarded matter until giving it back a poetic life and a new moral relationship with the human.
The exhibition project intends to invite reflection, to slow down individual time in order to traverse collective time, immersing oneself in what the curator describes as “a path marked by rose gardens crystallized in sheet metal, firmaments composed of street waste, geological concretions once limestone now converted into metal, sheet-veils of burnt colors.”
The audience is then invited to move within an immersive installation path consisting of fluid spaces that are separate but connected. Here time takes on a value of aesthetic reflexivity necessary to redefine the self and the meaning of one’s actions in relation to the world.
“In these works,” Eccher declares, “it is the rust that oxidizes on the metal, scratches it, scratches it, it is she who shows the face of her time and it is on this face that the color caresses the scars, indicates the expressions, heals the wounds. These are sheets that hold traces of their memory, memories made of work, toil, suffering, perhaps even pain. Each scratch, each tear, each fold whispers its own story, offers the gaze the symbolic image of an event that has been lost in the embrace of time.” “These are oxidized memories, the same metal skins that defy, in a metaphysical karst cave, the geological time of rude stalactites and stalagmites,” the curator adds. Traversing the rooms of the Salone Verde is an experience to be lived in a kind of multiple realities.
Francesca Leone’s exhibition inaugurates the restoration of Salone Verde in Calle della Regina, Sestiere Santa Croce 2258.
The side event is accompanied by a catalog, published by Silvana Editoriale, with texts by Danilo Eccher, Laura Cherubini, Raffaella Frascarelli, and Cesare Cunaccia.
The project is supported by Allianz Bank Financial Advisors, Dante&Associati, F.P.A Finanza - Previdenza - Assicurazioni.
