The Fondaco dei Tedeschi presents from Jan. 14 to March 30, 2022, the photographic exhibition Glimpses of Stone. Venice as seen from its statues, a selection of 52 images by photographer Marco Sabadin on Venice through the privileged eye of a drone that flew over the city in 2020 during last spring’s lockdown and continued in 2021.
A journey that starts from the station and goes all the way to the Arsenale, passing through San Marco, Rialto, San Polo, touching S. Nicolò dei Mendicoli to go up again to the Salute finally reaching through Giudecca to the island of San Giorgio. 52 printed photographic panels of different sizes and placed at different heights from the shooting point; images of generous dimensions ranging from 100 x 140 cm to 200 x 140 cm format.
“I thought of wandering around Venice imagining I was a bird flying over the city at a very low altitude, caressing roofs and statues, bell towers and capitals,” says photographer Marco Sabadin. “A viewpoint that has always fascinated me and that over time I tried to make concrete through the tools I had at my disposal, but unfortunately with poor results, until the advent of drones. During the lockdown I had the opportunity and permits to fly a drone over the city to document Venice and thus realized a dream: to look at this wonderful city from unusual points of view.”
Marco Sabadin was born on December 4, 1959, in Venice, the city where he lives and works. An APR pilot since 2014, he has been making a living from photography for forty years, operating not only in the Venice area but also often moving around the Triveneto region, accompanying the news of various local and national newspapers and international agencies with his photos. Vision, an agency of which he has been a member since 1986, also provides photographic services to various Venetian institutions. The office in the historic center enriches the photographic proposal to its clients thanks to a studio set up for both still life and portraiture.
