Venice, artists light up the windows of St. Mark's Square

It's called 'Vetrine accese' the project of the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation that brings artists to Venice to... light up the shop windows of St. Mark's Square.

TheBevilacqua La Masa Foundation Institution opens the new year by giving visibility to the current assignees of the Ateliers of Palazzo Carminati and the Cloister of SS Cosma and Damiano. Starting Wednesday, January 27, 2021, the four windows of the Gallery in St. Mark’s Square, facing Seconda Calle de l’Ascension, will feature a number of works designed by the artists specifically for these particular spaces. The event is entitled Vetrine accese and will last for several months.

Every year the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation Institution assigns fifteen ateliers, animating the historic residency program that began in 1901. “Its mission,” the Foundation emphasizes, “is to promote, help, train, with the appropriate tools and support, young artists. ’Lit Showcases’ was born within these objectives, offering visibility to contemporary creativity, still in a phase of emergency and hopeful waiting for the next reopening of the Gallery.”

For about three months, the artists will alternate, in groups of four, each engaging a showcase: the works can be appreciated with sometimes casual and fortuitous, sometimes solitary and attentive viewing. Interventions will range from photography to video, from painting to printmaking.
