This summer, Val di Sole becomes the Valley of Photography. From June 17 to October 9, 2022, Caldes Castle presents LIVING UP. Men and Mountains by Magnum Photographers. From Robert Capa to Steve McCurry, a major exhibition dedicated to photographs with the theme of mountains and the people who live in them. The great photography of Magnum Photos will accompany photography enthusiasts who choose the spectacular Trentino valley at the foot of the Adamello Presanella, Ortles Cevedale and Brenta Dolomites groups. The project is organized by Suazes with Magnum Photos together with the Buonconsiglio Castle, provincial monuments and collections and is promoted by the Azienda per il Turismo delle Valli di Sole, Pejo e Rabbi, the Municipality of Caldes, and under the patronage of the Autonomous Province of Trento, and features mountains observed, experienced and narrated by the great interpreters of the Magnum Photos Agency, including Steve McCurry, Robert Capa, Werner Bischof, Elliott Erwitt, George Rodger, Herberst List, Martin Parr, Eve Arnold, Ferdinando Scianna and others. From the historic photographs of the 1950s to the present.
The residency project assigned to renowned photographer Paolo Pellegrin, also a member of the Magnum Agency, will also be held. It will be up to him to make a new reading of extraordinary intensity of the mountains and communities of Val di Sole.
From this reportage, starting in June and with an involvement of the territory, photographs will be selected to be installed in large, eco-sustainable outdoor structures, which will trace the"Path of Photography," the first Italian project of its kind carried out in the mountains, distributed on the trails, in the mountain huts and refuges of Val di Sole. The common thread of this unprecedented project will be precisely that of the relationship between the characteristics of this territory and the people who inhabit it.
