From July 9 to September 11, 2022, the “Leonardo da Vinci” Gallery in Cesenatico will host an exhibition of Dario Fo’s drawings and paintings, still unpublished, from the Grassi Collection.
Seventy paintings will be on display on the occasion of the exhibition, which is part of the publishing operation promoted and carried out by journalist and writer Fabio Grassi in collaboration with the Municipality of Cesenatico and following the realization of the book edited by Giovanni Scafoglio for Il Randagio Edizioni Dario Fo - Il Maestro dei Pennelli - Come il Premio Nobeleva dipingere il suo teatro, which contains stories, anecdotes and memories related to the presence of Dario Fo and Franca Rame in Cesenatico between the 1960s and 2016.
The exhibition follows the path contained in the book written by Fabio Grassi and displays the pictorial works that the 1997 Nobel Prize for Literature winner created at Casa Grassi, where he was a guest for several years before going on stage with a new show.
The works on display accompany the visitor in the discovery of theatrical plots, tales of workers’ struggles, bombs and state massacres, defense of the weak and oppressed, Rossini operas, the Chile of Salvador Allende and Victor Jara, the “accidental” death of Pinelli and much more: both the book’s plot and the exhibition itinerary illustrate some of the social and political battles waged by Dario Fo and Franca Rame through their political theater with irony and determination.
In addition to the paintings, two special works that Dario Fo painted at Casa Grassi will also be on display: these are two terracotta pans depicting The True History of Ravenna and an Etruscan Woman.
Completing the exhibition are the first program of Mistero Buffo watercolored on the cover by Fo, stamps issued by the Swedish Mint to honor the Nobel Prize for Literature awarded to Dario Fo in 1997, and a banner dating back more than 40 years painted by the maestro on the occasion of a debate held at the Palazzo del Turismo in Cesenatico.
The exhibition is open daily from 5 to 11 p.m., with free admission.
