UNBOUNDED, an exhibition of contemporary Chinese art featuring nine world-renowned artists, opens March 29 at the Casa del Mantegna in Mantua.

Opening on March 29 at the Casa del Mantegna in Mantua is UNBOUNDED, an original exhibition of contemporary Chinese art that will showcase the work of nine world-renowned artists from China. It will be divided on the basis of the generations to which the artists in the exhibition belong. The first group, that of artists born in the 1950s and 1960s, will feature Zhou Chunya (1955), Tan Ping (1960), Fang Lijun (1963) and Luo Quanmu (1965): they are among the first Chinese artists to have landed in the West and among the first to interface with purely Western phenomena such asabstract art or Pop Art. The second group will see works by artists born in the 1970s such as Ma Ke (1970), Li Changlong (1975) and Chen Ke (1978), among the first to abandon an art totally tied to tradition. Finally, the last group includes two young people such as Cai Lei (1983) and Man Ling (1989), among the best promises of contemporary Chinese art.

The exhibition, which is curated by Zhu Tong and Eleonora Battiston, is configured as an “event that, through nine world-renowned Chinese artists,” as Beniamino Morselli, president of the Province of Mantua, owner of the Casa del Mantegna, points out, “confirms the Virgilian city as a place of international meeting and elaboration of new cultural paradigms: a widespread and interactive museum, where artistic expression dialogues with the city’s enchanting architectural heritage, a Renaissance jewel famous throughout the world for its history and priceless art treasures.”

The exhibition, which will run until May 1, 2017, will be open daily, excluding Mondays and Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Free admission. For information: www.casadelmantegna.it
