From December 7, 2023 to April 28, 2024, the Casa Cavazzini Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Udine presents the exhibition Gino Valle. The Profession as Continuous Experimentation, curated by Francesca Albani and Franz Graf, in collaboration with theArchivio Studio Valle in Udine, with the patronage of the Academy of Mendrisio, the Order of Architects Planners Landscape Architects and Conservators of the Province of Udine, Confindustria and technical sponsor Fantoni. The exhibition is the first result of international research aimed at a thematic reinterpretation of Gino Valle ’s work between the 1950s and early 1980s.
Anarchitect from Udine born in 1923, whose 100th birthday therefore falls this year, Gino Valle tackled many themes throughout his activity, both in his homeland, Friuli, but also in different parts of Italy and the world. His intense activity is widely known, but many aspects related to the collective side of the work within the Studio and his deep involvement in the social, architectural and cultural debate of the time, to which Valle always gave a personal and original response, have remained little known. The exhibition therefore intends to give an understanding, through the works selected for the occasion, of this collective work in the wide time span from his graduation thesis in 1948 to the 1980s and the breadth of the themes addressed discussed above.
The great built heritage that Gino Valle has left us constitutes animportant testimony not only to the activity of one of the most multifaceted and refined designers of the second half of the twentieth century, but also to the society that produced it, whose cultural, economic and political instances it expresses.
Re-reading today the work of one of the architectural firms that continuously produced over a wide span of time some of the most significant works of the period, interpreting from time to time the various cultural and social instances, should lead to the awareness that their permanence represents an important moment within Italian culture and a vital presence for the contemporary multi-layered city.
