Turkish video artist Ali Kazma at MAXXI in Rome with his videos investigating the world at the time of globalization

From November 5 to 17, 2019, MAXXI in Rome will host Film Essays 1&2, an exhibition by Turkish video artist Ali Kazma (Istanbul, 1971), who with a selection of his videos illustrates his vision of the world at the time of globalization (exploring the identity of places, the stories of individual humans or groups, with separate investigations but put together as if they were pieces of a large mosaic).

Since his inception in the early 2000s, Ali Kazma has been paying close attention to the social and economic transformations of modern Turkey, becoming a careful witness to the contradictions between the country’s past and modernity. In particular, he focused on the transformation processes of the newly emerging reality with a series of videos covering its different aspects. He later shifted his focus from the process of change in Turkish reality to the exploration of other contexts in different areas of the world.
