Turin, showcasing the photographs of young Lorenzo Pingitore at CAMERA's Project Room

Parmenides, a solo exhibition by Lorenzo Pingitore (Turin, 1985), curated by Walter Guadagnini and Giangavino Pazzola, will be set up in CAMERA ’s Project Room and can be visited from March 7 to April 6, 2019.

The young photographer from Turin presents an unprecedented series of nine large-scale images, each capturing a large sphere, 4.5 meters in diameter, immersed in ever-changing environments and architecture. Each landscape establishes a dialogic relationship with the solid, enhancing its ability to alter the perception of the environment. These subjects, although motionless, create in each photograph a unique dynamic whole, which will persist over time thanks to the ability of the photographic medium to stop the moment in an image.

With Parmenides (2018), the photographer creates digital shots through which he reflects on both the language of photography and the human being: starting from the thought of the Greek philosopher of the same name, complexities and changes in the physical world are illusory, while the uniqueness and immutability of Being is affirmed. Man transforms places by his presence and not vice versa. At the same time, Pingitore recounts the journey he made to well-known and lesser-known places inItaly, in which he documented different categories of landscape: from archaeological to industrial, cultural to natural. The Palazzo del Lavoro in Turin, the Lago Verde in Bardonecchia, the Villa Pisani in Stra, an old Zuccherificio in Avezzano, and an abandoned industrial area in Terni are just some of the realities that form a catalog of places united by the presence of the sphere.

The exhibition is produced under the patronage of: Ministero per i beni e le attività culturali - Direzione generale Musei Polo Museale del Veneto, Villa Pisani Museo Nazionale and Riserva Naturale Regionale Monterano.
