Until September 5, 2021, the Royal Medal Collection of the Royal Museums of Turin is hosting the exhibition The Face of Women. The Other Face of History.
Born from a research project that kicked off in 2019, with the support of Soroptimist Turin, the exhibition aims to study the role of female characters through the lens of the Royal Museums’ numismatic collections, which count more than 60000 medals, coins, and seals. It is intended to rediscover and renew in the public’s memory the image of a selection of female figures, sometimes important in ancient and modern history, more often emblematic of how the figure of woman, while frequently exalted and immortalized, has many times been simply an ideal and immaterial symbol that goes beyond the real woman.
The itinerary is also accessible online at the Royal Museums website: a virtual tour to learn about some of the female figures who helped make History. It is possible to navigate with the cursor within the various showcases, open coin cards and insights and links to other works visible during the visit. Near the virtual showcases are also four video stages for a guided tour accompanied by the exhibition curator.
