Turin, a precious drawing by Francesco Salviati presented to the public for the first time by the Accorsi-Ometto Foundation

From Oct. 31, 2019 to Jan. 12, 2020, the Accorsi-Ometto Foundation in Turin will present a valuable drawing by Francesco Salviati to the public for the first time.

The Accorsi-Ometto Foundation of Turin, on the occasion of the 2019 Leonardo celebrations, will exhibit, for the first time to the public, a drawing that recently entered its collections: the Allegory of the Arno by Francesco Salviati (Florence, 1510 - Rome, 1563).

Leonardo’s death in 1519 was among the events that marked the beginning of the historical period known as "Mannerism." The creativity and technical ability of the Tuscan master passed on to the most important artists of 16th-century Florence, who knew how to cultivate the art of drawing, making it a tool of social self-promotion.

Among the most famous was certainly Francesco de’ Rossi, known as Il Salviati, who, between 1543 and 1545, painted the Sala delle Udienze in Palazzo Vecchio, commissioned by Cosimo I de Medici, with the Stories of Furio Camillo. A cycle whose iconographic complexity is evidenced by the many preparatory drawings, including precisely the one for theAllegory of the Arno.

This event thus becomes a special opportunity to understand the close link between drawing and decoration, between idea and execution in an important period of Italian history such as the Renaissance.

You can amirare the Allegory of the Arno from October 31, 2019 to January 12, 2020. For all information you can visit the official website of the Foundation.
