Triennale Milano celebrates with a major exhibition Elio Fiorucci, icon of Italian fashion

Triennale Milano pays tribute to the aesthetics and creative genius of Elio Fiorucci with the largest exhibition dedicated to the entrepreneur and founder of the eponymous brand. From November 6, 2024 to March 16, 2025.

From November 6, 2024 to March 16, 2025, Triennale Milano presents the retrospective Elio Fiorucci, dedicated to Elio Fiorucci (Milan, 1935 - 2015), curated by Judith Clark and installed by Fabio Cherstich. The exhibition is the largest ever on the entrepreneur and founder of the eponymous brand. Fiorucci has transformed fashion, art and youth culture in Italy since the 1960s.

Through works, archival materials and documents, the exhibition presents a comprehensive portrait of Fiorucci, from his human, entrepreneurial and cultural affairs. With an immersive layout, it explores his insights, his unique outlook and the experiments that revolutionized fashion and marketing in Italy and around the world. Following a chronological approach, the exhibition presents materials from his personal archive, along with industrial products, reconstructing Fiorucci’s unmistakable aesthetic.

A distinctive element of the exhibition is the voice of Fiorucci himself, taken from hitherto unpublished recordings, which guides visitors and dialogues with testimonies from those who knew him, in a lively narrative interwoven with the history of the brand. Fiorucci’s ironic and provocative style is rendered in the exhibition through a variety of media, including polaroids, installations, videos, photographs, clothing, accessories and contemporary artwork. The brand’s unique identity thus comes alive in all its vibrancy and versatility. The Cuore - Centro Studi space will feature a selection of books and magazines, thanks to the collaboration with the Arnoldo and Alberto Mondadori Foundation, testifying to the link between Fiorucci and the world of fashion. A bilingual catalog edited by Electa accompanies the exhibition, with essays by leading figures in culture and creativity analyzing themes and languages developed by Fiorucci throughout his career. Also available in December will be a podcast, produced by Triennale Milano and written by Andrea Batilla, which, in seven episodes, traces the entrepreneur’s life, from his Milan to New York.

“We wanted to fill, right here, where the Fiorucci phenomenon was born and exploded, the void of a formidable amnesia. Milan, thanks to Fiorucci, was in fact for at least two decades one of the magnets of the most advanced ideas in international youth culture and the cradle of the most fertile and daring contaminations not only between fashion, design, visual art and advertising, but also between culture and commerce. By invading the dark Milan of the 1970s with colors and shapes and then exporting his chromatic comet to the world, Elio Fiorucci gave his city the gift of a primacy in international creativity,” said Stefano Boeri, president of Triennale Milano.

Hours: Tuesday through Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
