Starting today, Dec. 19, a new exhibition-installation entitled"Traces. Art Dialogues in the Museum of Fashion and Costume."

This one aims to highlight the correspondences between the creations of stylist-artists and artist-couturiers from the 1930s to the present day.

There will be 107 works on display, including clothes, accessories, paintings and sculptures that will dialogue harmoniously: mirrors will also create an evocative effect of enlarging spaces, replicating the lines and colors of clothes, as well as amplifying lights.
One will notice a refined correspondence of signs and decorations between the dresses themselves and the paintings and sculptures present.

During the presentation of the exhibition, the new storage of clothes and textiles from the Museum of Fashion and Costume’s vast collection was announced.

Director of the Uffizi Galleries Eike Schmidt said that “the new repositories, created with the financial contribution of the Florentine Center for Italian Fashion, Pitti Immagine and the Pitti Discovery Foundation, from a technological point of view are absolutely on par with those of the other great fashion museums in the world. And they are yet more proof that the preservation and dissemination of culture benefit immensely from the opening up of museums to other entities: the collaboration of the Uffizi Galleries with the productive environment of Tuscan companies, and of these in particular, has brought novelty and ideas to the city, but also obvious practical results, including the new warehouses. Each entity draws thrust from the other, in an effective and useful dialogue for all, just as in the Tracce exhibition each object is enhanced by the intelligent - and often unexpected - comparison with other works.”

Andrea Cavicchi, President of the Florence Center for Italian Fashion and Fondazione Pitti Immagine Discovery, added, “The presentation of the new repository for the custody of fashion collections is a fundamental step in the path of collaboration between CFMI, Pitti Immagine and Fondazione Pitti Discovery, with the Uffizi Galleries. In these two years of working together, in addition to having realized the Karl Lagerfeld monographic exhibition and the Ephemeral Museum of Fashion, curated by Olivier Saillard, we have worked on the creation of a permanent structure for the preservation and enhancement of contemporary Fashion.”

“Traces. Dialogues in Art in the Museum of Fashion and Costume” is curated by Caterina Chiarelli, Simonella Condemi and Tommaso Lagattola in collaboration with the Modern Art Gallery of Palazzo Pitti.
