Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence will host from July 5 to 28, 2019 the exhibition The Kingdom of Purity. Tibet in the Painting of Han Yuchen.

Curated by Cristina Acidini and conceived by Xiuzhong Zhang, the exhibition will allow the public to learn about the artistic production of Han Yuchen (Jilin, China, 1954) through a selection of pictorial works.

The artist has always shown a great passion for the landscapes and culture of Tibet, a snowy and mystical region, which he considered the realm of physical and spiritual purity: he depicted landscapes, portraits, and scenes of daily life of local communities.

Because of his family’s counterrevolutionary stance, Yuchen began to approach painting, particularly the oil technique, under uncomfortable conditions of hard work; he was only able to devote himself fully to art following his vocation in adulthood. His paintings testify to his great technique and his choice to depict simple themes drawn from everyday life.

The exhibition is promoted and organized by Zhong Art International, with the collaboration of theAccademia delle Arti del Disegno, the Accademia di Belle Arti of Florence and the China National Academy of Painting, under the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Region of Tuscany, the Municipality of Florence, the Metropolitan City and the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Florence, and with the support of Confindustria Firenze, Fondazione Romualdo del Bianco and Life Beyond Tourism.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalog, published by Mandragora, in which the works in the exhibition and others related to the artist’s relationship with Tibet will be illustrated.
