After last year’s exhibition (February-September 2021), La Via delle Api, the exhibition dedicated to the world of bees and their products, from honey to royal jelly, reopens again at the Civic Museum of Zoology in Rome.
The exhibition, through preparations from the museum’s entomological collections, beekeeping materials, captivating videos and models, aims to guide visitors to discover the “way of bees”: from the particular life cycle of these insects to their extraordinary social organization and their fundamental role in the pollination of plants. The tour continues with a presentation of their main products, honey, pollen, and propolis, and the properties of these substances that are used in food, medicine, and agriculture.
Also illustrated is research that, using bees as bio-indicators, provides very important information on the health status of the environment. Some equipment used in beekeeping is placed in the center of the exhibition, in addition to some media with thematic insights. It will also be possible for visitors to have a sensory experience by simulating a journey inside a beehive.
The exhibition aims to emphasize the importance of bees (80 percent of the food that arrives on our tables is the result of the work of these and other pollinators) and their role in maintaining biodiversity, raising visitors’ awareness of the protection of these extraordinary insects. During the visit, the public is guided byAgnes the bee, the exhibition mascot who, in addition to revealing some interesting facts about bees, is the protagonist of a game-quiz with multiple answers. All visitors in possession of the free “AppAgnese” app, downloadable soon to all mobile devices, can participate in the game.
