The public will be able to see sculptor Mikayel Ohanjanyan’s work titled"The Threshold is the Source" made of basalt and steel cables on display at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo in Florence.
The artist won the Enrico Marinelli Contemporary Art Award, established by theOpera di Santa Maria del Fiore and the Guild of the Dome Association and coordinated by contemporary art curator Adelina von Fürstenberg.
The artists who participated in the award were asked to represent the theme of Hope with a sculpture to be temporarily displayed in the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo in Florence.
Timothy Verdon, director of the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, said, “To the question posed by the Competition of expressing in a contemporary language something similar to the message of the masterpieces of the Museo dell’Opera, Mikayel Ohanjanyan chose an idiom outside of time, bare stone, the same stone in which Arnolfo di Cambio, Tino da Camaino, Andrea Pisano, Donatello worked.Created by God, raised and carved by man, it is a sign of communion between the Creator and the creature made in his image and therefore creative. ’Threshold’ that enters the mystery of our being, in the hands of the artist it becomes a ’source’ of hope.”
