For this spring, the Prado Museum has announced a major exhibition on Guido Reni. It will open to the public on March 28 and can be visited until July 9, 2023. Among the leading exhibition events in the programming of the famous Madrid museum, the exhibition entitled Guido Reni, curated by Andrés Úbeda de los Cobos and David García Cueto, organized by the Museo Nacional del Prado with the collaboration of the Städel Museum in Frankfurt am Main, aims to offer a comprehensive overview of the great Bolognese master ’s contribution to the art of his time, based on the most recent art-historical research and with a special focus on the artist’s ties with Spain. This relationship is evident in the collecting of his works by the monarchy and aristocracy and also in the influence of his models on various artists of the so-called Spanish Siglo de Oro.
About one hundred works including painting, sculpture, and graphic art will be on display. Paintings and sculptures by his contemporaries will also be placed in dialogue with his masterpieces in order to stimulate reflection on the multiple interactions evident in his pictorial production. Some works will be exhibited for the first time while others will be displayed following major restoration work.
